Hellmuth Falls To Seidel In Heads-up Event
Phil Hellmuth losing in head’s up play? That’s not something you hear about every day.
The 2022 U.S. Poker Open event saw their ninth event come all the way down to the wire and Hall of Famer Phil Hellmuth fell short. This event was a $25,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em match with two legendary poker players being the last remaining competitors. Erik Seidel and Hellmuth squared off in an intense battle, but Seidel was able to win it in the end. Along with the title, he picked up $472,500 for his first-place prize.
Seidel and Hellmuth have had quite a history against one another. This recent event marked the third time that they have faced one another for a tournament title. Seidel won the first matchup that came all the way back in 1988 and then won the second in 1992. It’s safe to say that Hellmuth has seemingly met his match.
Seidel has now passed the $40 million mark in career tournament earnings. He is the fifth player to ever cross that number in history and is fifth on the all-time money list for poker.
Weisman Wins Pot-Limit Omaha Event At US Poker Open Event
There were three featured pot-limit Omaha events in the 2022 U.S. Poker Open series this past week and Dylan Weisman nearly conquered them all. He had himself quite the run as he finished in the final table for all three of those events. The third was when he was the most successful, overcoming a field of 49 entries to win the title and a prize of $416,500.
By far this was Weisman’s largest career tournament win. His previous was picked up back in the World Series of Poker $1,000 PLO event. That event was his first-ever bracelet win and netted him $166,461. In total, Weisman has earned $1,037,292 in career winnings.
When it comes to the Card Player Player of the Year race, he now sits in 82nd right now on the leaderboard. He moved up a few slots after grabbing 420 points for his most recent win and also shot up into 23rd place in the PokerGO Tour standings.
Foxen Wins U.S. Poker Open $15,000 Event
With the U.S Poker Open ongoing, we’re seeing lots of poker tournaments reach their conclusion. Poker pro Alex Foxen is one of the latest winners, rallying to take the $15,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em event while edging out 70 other players in the process. With the first-place prize, Foxen will take home $283,500.
Not only was this a huge win for Foxen in terms of prize money, but it also helped him shoot up above the $21.2 million mark in career tournament earnings. He is now just one spot away from cracking the top 30 on the all-time money list for poker.
Foxen is having a great ride so far in 2022. In the Card Player Player of the Year race, he is sitting in 10th place after his most recent win. He also jumped up into seventh place in the PGT standings. With five events remaining in the Poker Open series, Foxen could end up winning another event and going further up the leaderboards.
