This week’s poker news starts us off with a big win by Brazilian Pablo Silva at a South American partypoker event. We’ll start with those details before moving on to some big news in Las Vegas and the Sahara’s new poker room.
Silva Wins 2020 partypoker MILLIONS South America Event
There was a prize pool of $5 million at the 2020 partypoker MILLIONS South America $10,300 buy-in no-limit hold’em Main Event and Brazilian Pablo Silva took home the largest share. With a field of 465 entries and a five-figure buy-in, it’s easy to see why the prize pool easily surpassed the $1 million they were expecting.
Silva entered the final table third in terms of the chip count. He outlasted a talented group of nine, including Rafael Henrique Caiaffa, Fabian Gumz and European Poker Tour Dublin Main event winner Dzmitry Urbanovich.
Silva ended up taking home $1,000,000 for the win along with 1800 Card Player POY Points. Fabio Colonese placed second and won $640,000 while Daniel Rezaei placed third and won $435,000.
Sahara Poker Room Reopens after 9 Years
It’s been a long time since we’ve seen poker at the Sahara on the Las Vegas Strip. The hotel, which has somewhat become a faded memory at the north end of The Strip, hasn’t had a poker room running since 2011. On Twitter, the hotel announced that they’d be reopening a brand new seven-table poker room later this month. As of now, we don’t have any further details.
The Sahara used to have an 11-table poker room but closed it down in 2011. That actually paved the way for the rest of the casino closing too as the casino shutdown after 59 years of operation. They casino rebranded as the SLS as part of a $415 million renovation but the SLS never opened a poker room. In August of 2019, they switched back to being The Sahara and only now have decided to bring the poker room back.
With only seven tables, we’re probably not going to see many high-stakes games. Even so, the newly-renovated casino and poker room looks really swanky. Hopefully it will attract some business.
WSOP Announces 2020 Online Gold Bracelet Events
We’ve had a slow trickle of news coming out over the last few weeks with details being released and now we have details about the WSOP online poker gold bracelet events. This has been a growing aspect of the WSOP as they have handed out 18 bracelets since they started the online section in 2015; this year, they’ve announced that there will be 14 events.
There are going to be some big events on the schedule, including a brand new $10,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em high roller event. All but one of the events online will be no-limit hold’em with the lone other version being a pot-limit Omaha event. There will be buy-ins of all ranges with $400 being the lowest and $10,000 being the highest. 10 of the 14 events will have reasonable buy-ins of $800 or less.
The festivities kickoff on May 31st and run through July 12th.
