From a big win this past week to a couple of newly scheduled events that will offer nice paydays, it was a busy few days in the world of poker. Here’s a look at the key headlines of the week.
Koon Wins Big At Triton Super High Roller Series
The 2018 Triton Super High Roller Series Montenegro wrapped up with the Short Deck Ante-Only Event and American Jason Koon took the win. The event had a buy-in of $127,000, which meant there was a prize pool of over $12 million. As a result, Koon collected $3,579,836.
Koon defeated China’s Xuan Tan, who won $2,308,384 for second place, while Phil Ivey of the United States came in third with $1,666,480. Hong Kong’s Winfred Yu won $1,172,727 for fourth place and Rui Cao of France rounded out the top five with $802,412.
Koon had won almost $170,000 in another event at the Triton Super High Roller Series but this turned out to be the biggest payday of his career and his third million-dollar payday. He has now won over $16 million in live tournaments, putting him 17th on the all-time money list for Americans.
WPT Adds 2018 Stops In Japan, South Korea
The World Poker Tour has announced that it’ll add stops in Japan and South Korea later in the year, rounding out an already-packed calendar. The Japanese event will take place September 15-17 in Tokyo in partnership with the Japan Poker Union Corporation. On September 18 through to September 24, they’ll head over to Incheon in South Korea.
This is very interesting news after it was revealed that six Ourgame employees had been arrested in China for running illegal poker games. However, none of it had anything to do with Ourgame itself – the illegal activity was outside of the brand – so it seems as though the World Poker Tour is in the clear.
Partypoker LIVE Caribbean Poker Party Announced
The 2018 partypoker LIVE Caribbean Poker Party has been announced as it will go down at Baha Mar in the Bahamas in November. The highlight of the slate is usually the MILLIONS Main Event, which will have a buy-in of $5,300 and a $10-million guarantee. However, the MILLIONS World Super High Roller Event will take place November 9-12 and it is going to be huge. The buy-in for that event is a whopping $25,500, also with a $10-million guarantee. This means they’re going to try to get 400 entrants for this event.
While a number of big-time players are expected to be participating, you can get in on the action by playing one of the satellites at partypoker. These satellite games will start at $22 and the winners will also get 10 nights at a bed and breakfast for two people, along with a $1,000 resort credit and $2,000 toward your flights. Winners will also receive a buy-in for the MILLIONS World event.
