Mercier Cashes In $715K Prize At 2019 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open
Jason Mercier went nearly two years between major poker tournament titles but that drought has now ended. For him, it was a long wait but one that might have been worth it.
This past week, Mercier took home $715,860 with his first tournament title in over two years when he won the 2019 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open $50,000 no-limit hold’em high roller event. That massive first place prize payout at the casino pushed Mercier’s career earnings to $19.4 million. In addition to the massive cash prize, Mercier earned 510 Card Player Player of the Year points.
It was actually his first Player of the Year-qualified score this year. Mercier, who celebrated the birth of his first child Marco with his wife Natasha in 2017, had reportedly played less than 50 hours of poker since last summer. However, that didn’t keep him from outlasting a field of 41 entries to come out on top in this high stakes event.
Franklin Fok took home $457,355 for his runner-up finish, followed by Thomas Bolvin winning $288,330 for finishing in third place.
Yu Liang Wins Triton Poker London 50K Euro Short Deck Event
Yu Liang was the big winner of the 2019 Triton Poker Super High Roller Series London 50,000 Euro buy-in short deck event. Liang, who is a native of the Marshall Islands, managed to survive a field of 52 entries to win the top prize of 777,000 euros, which is roughly $947,940.
The tournament, which was the final event of the Triton London series, saw a solid turnout that pushed the total prize pool to over $3 million. The top seven finishers of the tournament split that prize pool between them with each of the top six finishers taking home upwards of $195,444.
A simultaneous elimination on the money bubble at two separate tables created a unique situation in which Mike Watson and Choon Tony Siow shared the seventh-place prize. David Benefield took home $683,810 for his runner-up finish, while Richard Yong won $435,540 for finishing third at the final table.
Wynn Fall Classic Offers Guaranteed $2.5 Million Prize Pool
The dates and details for the 2019 edition of the Wynn Fall Classic have been revealed. The event will feature 16 tournaments with nearly $2.5 million in guaranteed money to be handed out between September 23rd and October 13th. That total prize pool is a significant increase from the $1.8 million guarantee that was up for grabs in the 16 events at last year’s festival.
This year’s series will be highlighted by the three-day Championship Event that features a massive $1 million guaranteed prize pool. That payout, for a tournament with a $1,600 buy-in, is double the $500K prize pool from last year’s Championship Event.
