Poker News: Stephen Chadwick 2019 Card Player POY

US Poker Open 2021

This week’s poker news delivers the schedules for a couple of highly-anticipated poker events on the 2020 calendar. Before we dive into that, let’s take a look at who was crowned the CP Player Of The Year for 2020.

Stephen Chidwick Is Crowned 2019 Card Player Player Of The Year

It didn’t take long for Stephen Chidwick to redeem himself and reach his goal of becoming the Card Player Player of the Year. One year after he was the runner-up in the race in 2019, Chidwick was able to put all of the pieces together and earn the 2019 Card Player Player Of The Year award.

The 30-year-old poker professional cashed for more than $7.3 million in qualified events in 2019. That number brought his total career earnings to $33,439,159. Now seventh on poker’s all-time money list, Chidwick is the first-ever British Card Player Player Of The Year winner.

Over the past 12 months, Chidwick earned the top prize with a total of 22 POY-qualified final tables and five titles. That run included winning his first World Series of Poker gold bracelet, which included a whopping $1.6 million prize. A world class player in every sense, Chidwick will now look to follow up his brilliant run with an excellent encore performance in 2020.

2020 Live Poker Schedule Officially Announced By Unibet

Unibet has officially announced its live poker schedule for the 2020 calendar year. The tour, which arrived as an early Christmas present for hardcore players and fans that were looking forward to the announcement, will begin with the Unibet Open Dublin at the Bonnington Hotel in Dublin, Ireland in February. That tournament alone will feature a €1,100 main event including three starting flights and a €250,000 guarantee. It will represent the Unibet Open’s third visit to the Irish capital following a record-breaking second event there in 2018.

Some of the other highlights on the tour include the invitational Unibet Tag Team Championship and the Unibet Battle Royale tournament. It’s expected that the remaining live poker schedule dates will be announced sometime early in 2020.

Ocean’s Eleven Casino Announces 3 San Diego Classic 2020 Events

The Card Player Poker Tour will unite with the Ocean’s Eleven Casino in order to produce three San Diego Classic events in 2020. After joining forces to produce 10 events in total over the last four years, the partnership will come together again to deliver another special set of tournaments this year.

While the details have not been finalized just yet, the three events will take place in the months of January, April and July. More than 8,200 entries have been made across the 10 tournaments that the Card Player Poker Tour and the Ocean’s Eleven Casino put together in recent years with more than $2.1 million in prize money handed out to the top finishers.

The $250 buy-in poker tournaments will have six starting flights to choose from, with two flights per day for the first three days of the event. The players that compete at these events will also have the opportunity to take advantage of the popular Quantum Tournament structure and buy-in directly on the second day of action.

After resounding successes in the past, it really shouldn’t be a surprise that the Card Player Poker Tour and Ocean’s Eleven Casino’s partnership will continue to push forward in 2020.
