Poker News Roundup: Patrik Antonius, David Peters, Award Nominees


It was a week of big wins on the poker circuit ranging from Europe to the United States. We’ll start our weekly recap of this week’s top poker headlines in the Czech Republic: 

Antonius Claims partypoker Millions Super High Roller Event

Patrik Antonius came out on top at the partypoker Millions Germany Super High Roller event this past week. The event, which was held at the King’s Casino in the Czech Republic, had a buy-in of over $30,000. That led to a grand prize of $520,430 for Antonius for this live-streamed event. 

Joao Simao finished in second place and won $307,666, while Renato Nowak came in third place and earned $214,295. Stefan Schillhabel was in fourth place with $153,068 and Steve O’Dwyer rounded out the top five with $122,454. 

The story of the day was Antonius, who has now won two million-dollar tournaments in his career. He is the No. 1 player in Finland’s poker history in terms of money won. It had been a few years since his last large payday as he hadn’t collected a six-figure check since winning $600,000 at the 2014 Aussie Millions Poker Championship. Antonius has now won over $7.1 million from live poker in his career. 

Peters Wins No-Limit Hold’em Event At U.S. Poker Open

David Peters won a $25,000 No-Limit Hold’em event at the U.S. Poker Open in Las Vegas this week, beating out Stephen Chidwick. In total, there were 50 entries in this field and Peters was the one who survived them all to take home the $400,000 grand prize. Chidwick won $262,000 for his second-place efforts while Sean Winter was next with $175,000. Keith Tilston and Ben Tollerene rounded out the top five with Tilston collecting $125,000 and Tollerene earning $100,000. 

Peters is now 12th on the all-time American list in money with over $19.7 million in career winnings. His total haul at the 2018 U.S. Poker Open surpassed $500,000. Chidwick fell short at this event but he was the star of the U.S. Poker Open, finishing in the top five in five events this year, winning two events and totaling over $1.2 million in winnings. 

American Poker Awards Nominees Announced

The nominees for the 2018 American Poker Awards presented by PokerStars have been announced. Doug Polk leads the way with three nominations for Video Blogger, Poker’s Biggest Influencer and Tournament Performance as he won the One Drop High Roller Event. Daniel Negreanu was also nominated for Video Blogger and Biggest Influencer. 

There are 102 nomination panel members who have decided who will be up for the 20 awards, which is the most in the history of the show. This year’s event will be held at the Andaz West Hollywood. 

The ceremony, which is in its fourth year, will take place on February 22.
