The Masters week is well underway as the 2021 edition is approaching. Last year’s festivities were held in November due to COVID-19, so it really hasn’t been that long since we’ve seen a green jacket doled out. Speaking of which, Dustin Johnson is our defending champ. He’s favored to win this week’s event but let’s take a look at the board and see where there’s value.
The Favorites
Coming off a win in November, Dustin Johnson is the clear-cut favorite (+900). Nobody has been able to win back-to-back green jackets since Tiger Woods did it back in 2001-02, so the odds don’t appear to be in his favor. Johnson has played fantastic ever since his last Masters, though, he has struggled in his last two starts, placing 48th and 54th, so momentum is not with him.
Jordan Spieth (+1100) is all of the sudden favorite for the 2021 Masters after an eventful past few months. He missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open back in January but has since finished in fourth place at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, tying for fourth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill and finished in third place at the AT&T Pro-AM at Pebble Beach. It’s been a while since we’ve seen him play like this, so it looks like he’s got a real shot to do damage.
Bryson DeChambeau (+1100) is at the top of the board as few golfers have delivered like he has over the last year. Bryson has a very unique skillset that will put him towards the top of any upcoming event for the next few years. He has been consistent with excellent preparation towards events, and you can imagine that this one will be no different. He is fresh off a third-place result at THE PLAYERS and won the Arnold Palmer right before that, so he’s in good form.
The Longshots
Brooks Koepka (+2200) is among the longer shots to win the 2021 Masters despite being a four-time major champion. He recently had major knee surgery less than a month ago, so it is surprising to see him get prepared to play in this event. He has been grinding and fighting for a chance to compete despite the surgery, and is a bit of a wild card. We know that when he’s on, he’s in the hunt. The question is how healthy and rusty will he be?
Justin Thomas (+1200) will get a lot of love from bettors as he’s often in the running. The challenge is that he lacks major wins so far in his career. He was able to win his 14th career PGA Tour win at THE PLAYERS Championship in March, which was one of the most significant wins of his career. The challenge is that The Masters hasn’t been kind to him. He finished fourth last year but prior to that, had finished 12th or worse in four straight starts at Augusta National Golf Club, so he’s tough to trust.
