This week’s poker news hones in on the recent headlines from three of the biggest poker brands: the World Poker Tour, Poker Night in America and PartyPoker. Let’s take a look at what’s brewing from this week’s news.
WPT Joins PokerGo Streaming Service
World Poker Tour is one of the biggest poker series in the game. In an effort to get their series in front of more viewers, they have decided to make all of their Main Tour events available on live stream via PokerGO, the streaming service that comes from the former Poker Central. It looks to be a smart move as the World Poker Tour aims to keep up with changing technology. PokerGo is a very inexpensive service to get for the customer at $10 per month or $99 for the year.
Season XVI of the World Poker Tour has already started, but the first event that will be available on the live stream is the Legends of Poker, which got underway last Friday and concludes on Wednesday. The season ends in Berlin in January 2018, so there is plenty of poker left to play, which means there is a lot left to watch so you can tune in starting now.
Hellmuth Wins King Of The Hill
Phil Hellmuth, a player that needs no introduction, has added another big win to his resume. He claimed the King of the Hill event, which is a part of Poker Night in America. This was held at the Rivers Casino in Schenectady, New York. Hellmuth played against Doug Polk, Daniel Cates and Frank Kassela. Hellmuth and Cates were the final two to go head-to-head and it was actually Cates that jumped to the early lead. It looked like Hellmuth was done and dusted before he started to chip away at a massive chip lead for Cates, who couldn’t stop the momentum and it just snowballed from there. Hellmuth went from being down 34-to-1 in chips to being up 4-to-1 by the time it was all said and done.
The win adds another big victory to his already impressive resume, which includes a win in the World Series Of Poker Main Event. He was inducted into the World Series Of Poker Hall Of Fame a decade ago.
PartyPoker Announces Powerfest Schedule
PartyPoker has released the full schedule for Powerfest, a series that has 330 tournaments for its players to choose from and $35 million in prizes. This series used to be called Pokerfest, but the name was changed last year. The buy-ins for these tournaments can be anywhere from $5.50 to $25,500, so everyone from the amateurs to the big spenders will be able to participate. The action will get underway just a few days from now in September.
There will be 12 championship events with 10 of these events offering at least $1 million in prize money. There will also be an event strictly for women on September 24 that features a guaranteed prize pool of $10,000. You can find all of the events on PartyPoker’s website.
