This week’s poker news starts off with the sale of Phil Galfond’s site. After years of making it one of the favorites in the community, he’s now sold it to Rush Street Interactive.
Rush Street Interactive Purchases Phil Galfond’s Poker Site
Phil Galfond spent many years building up his poker website Run It Once but he’s now decided to move on from it. He has officially sold it, announcing to the world that the site was just acquired by Rush Street Interactive, a company that is among the leading operators in the online casino market in the United States. Galfond broke the news via a Twitter post.
Although the deal is done, there isn’t a timeline for when Rush will be launching their own online poker product. So far, it is expected that they will launch it in either Michigan, Pennsylvania, or New Jersey. Mostly because Rush already has other things set up in those states.
In total, Rush paid $5.8 million for the site. $3.3 million of that money was in the form of cash and the remaining $2.5 million came in the form of stock.
World Series of Poker Coming To New York State Due To Turning Stone Resort
Turning Stone Resort wants to get itself in the history books by becoming the first host of satellites for the World Series of Poker in New York State. Turning Stone will also become the first and only casino to host WSOP events in New York. The satellites are currently expected to take place from March 17th all the way until the 28th, so if you’re looking to participate, you have to get in soon.
Turning Stone isn’t new to hosting satellites either. They hosted 27 of them back in November and December combined but not in New York state.
The current buy-in range is set from $300 and increasing up to $1,700 for what will be the main event of the series. This final main event is going to include a large $500,000 guarantee as well with two starting flights on March 25th and the 26th.
Poker Player And Cricket Legend Shane Warne Passes Away
The poker and cricket community just lost a very valued member. Shane Warne has passed away at the age of 52 from a heart attack. His family has requested that they receive privacy at the time and will issue further details whenever the time comes around.
Warne is a member of the Cricket Hall of Fame and was even a sponsor of the poker site 888 throughout the years 2008 all the way to 2015. The former 888 ambassador expressed his sadness after hearing the news as well, saying, “We are heartbroken to hear of the untimely passing of Aussie cricket legend, and ex 888 ambassador, Shane Warne.”
Not only was Warne a fantastic cricket player, but he was also fond of playing poker. He was able to rack up six figures in tournament scores and even made a great run during the 2015 World Series of Poker Main Event. He finished in 597th place and walked away with $20,000. The last time that he cashed out in a poker tournament came as recently as January of 2022 when he won $3,200 for a seventh-place finish in Australia.
