Boston Globe Pushing For Wynn Resorts To Fire CEO
The never-ending saga concerning Massachusetts and Wynn Resorts has taken another bizarre turn. The latest is that the Boston Globe – the most influential newspaper in the state – wants the company’s current CEO replaced. Of course, the company’s last lead – Steve Wynn – voluntarily removed himself after allegations of sexual assault came to light.
Wynn Resorts has been building a casino-resort in Everett, Massachusetts, just about a 15-minute drive from downtown Boston. The resort is supposed to open up in June, but the Wynn situation has caused delays and legal problems with the gaming commission. Wynn stepped away from his company in the hope of clearing the air and disassociating the company from the problems, but that hasn’t been the case. They even renamed the resort to Encore Boston Harbor – completely removing the Wynn name – but that hasn’t fully helped either. The gaming commission also fined Wynn Resorts $20 million.
Now the Boston Globe is claiming that while Wynn is gone, the company’s ugly legacy and culture remains. They view Maddox as Wynn’s right-hand man, so they feel like Wynn is still pulling the strings behind the scenes.
The bottom line is that there are going to be a lot of losers if this casino is shut down at the 11th hour. Sure, they’ll send a message to Wynn Resorts, but the state also stands to lose millions in revenues as they look for a new operator and thousands of jobs. Hopefully, cooler heads prevail and this casino opens up as scheduled.
Gateway Wasaga Beach Casino Gets Target Location
A new casino could be coming to the Toronto area. Wasaga Beach, known as a summer getaway spot for Torontonians, is going to build a casino and now a location has been announced: at Highway 26 and Mosley Street.
While we don’t know a ton of details, what we do know is that a casino and entertainment complex will be produced in the area. The idea is to make it Vegas-like, which means it’ll be a spot for high-end dining, live entertainment and much more. Specifics as to what restaurants and what venues will be put up is expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The casino is slated to open by the summer of 2020.
While casinos are illegal in Toronto, a number of outlets nearby to Canada’s most populated city continue to thrive. Players will drive hours to get in some action, and now Wasaga Beach will become an outlet for them too.
