Delaware Online Poker

Updated: 11th of April 2012.

Is Online Poker Legal in Delaware?

Online hasn't been specifically legalized in Delaware. In fact, Delaware state law says that all forms of gambling are prohibited in Delaware except lotteries, pari-mutuel betting and certain kinds of bingo games. So is online poker legal in Delaware? I don't think so, since it isn't a legal form of gambling in Delaware.

Will Delaware Legalize Internet Poker?

In February 2012, Delaware Secretary of Finance, Tom Cook, commented the DOJ announcing that the Wire Act of 1961 only applies to sports betting and not poker or casino games: "Obviously, this is an historic ruling and we are, at this point, exploring our options."

Cook also revealed that Governor Jack Markell has told legislative leaders in Delaware that the issue will be discussed when they return on March 13. Another quote from Tom Cook regarding the possibility of Delaware online poker: "Other states are looking at going down the i-gaming path, and we want to make sure we are competitive in our tax structure, but also make sure we maximize the revenue."

On 29th of March 2012, CardPlayer reported that Delaware could be one of the next states to legalize online poker. (www.cardplayer.com.)
