Is Online Poker Legal in Alabama?

Alabama Online PokerAlabama is an anti-gambling state and has not legalized online poker or other online gambling games. Like the majority of the states, Alabama has not specifically prohibited internet poker either:

A person engages in gambling if he stakes or risks something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance or a future contingent event not under his control or influence, upon an agreement or understanding that he or someone else will receive something of value in the event of a certain outcome.
A person commits the crime of simple gambling if he knowingly advances or profits from unlawful gambling activity as a player.

Based on the laws above, I'd say that playing Alabama online poker is illegal. But I'm not a lawyer and I've never studied law, so if you have a great desire to play online poker in Alabama, I recommend contacting a local gaming lawyer about the subject.

All real-money USA poker sites accept players from Alabama whether playing internet poker for real cash is legal there or not.

Will Alabama Legalize Online Poker?

It is unlikely that Alabama online poker will be legalized anytime soon since the state is currently fighting over if tribal casinos' electronic bingo machines belong to the "charitable bingo" category.

Only Class II gaming is legal gambling in Alabama. There are no casinos offering live poker, blackjack, roulette or any form of gambling other than electronic bingo machines.

Legal Alabama Gambling

The only forms of Alabama gambling that aren't unlawful are charitable bingo and greyhound races.
