Mac Poker for USA PlayersNot long ago there was a time when finding Mac poker sites that worked well was difficult and – in some cases – even impossible. Nowadays Mac users have it better and every reputable US poker site has some sort of Mac-compatible poker software, although there are major differences in software quality, reliability and the way the poker sites operate in general.

Lacking a Mac-compatible poker client was somewhat understandable five years ago but nowadays it is a necessity. As an avid Apple follower, I took it upon myself to find out which US poker sites are best suited for Mac users.

Instant-Play vs. Downloadable Software

Instead of creating a downloadable Mac software, many online poker sites have opted for instant-play versions of their software which you can play on your browser (“no-download poker”). Windows users can use the same instant-play poker software in case they prefer not to download the poker client.

I recommend Mac poker sites with downloadable software. While instant-play versions are nice, they lack features and are less secure than downloadable clients (think about how secure playing for real money on your browser is).

Carbonpoker.ag is the best Mac poker room for US players. It has the highest quality Mac software, most players, lots of experience, fastest payouts and arguably the easiest player pool since the site is friendly to recreational players and converts a lot of casino and sportsbook gamblers to its poker tables.

Playing Windows Poker on a Mac

If, for some weird reason, the poker site that you’ve chosen to play at has not created a Mac-compatible poker software (all of the above have), you can have Windows on your Mac by using a PC emulator. Poker sites need to create separate Mac clients because .exe files don’t run on Macs — at one point it was therefore acceptable for a poker site to not have one since Mac users made such as small portion of the overall online poker player pool. But now it’s suspicious if a poker site lacks one.

Here are some guides on how to use PC emulators on a Mac:
