This week’s poker news features a recap of three big events from the past week along with three big winners. Let’s take a look at who was cashing in at the big poker events from around the globe:
Jhunjhunwala Wins World Poker Tour India Deep Stacks Event
A total of 697 participants took part in the World Poker Tour Deep Stacks India INR 55,000 No-Limit Hold’Em main event but only one survived them all. Nikunj Jhunjhunwala navigated the crowded field to win $92,176. Emerging from such a massive field represented an emotionally impactful moment for the new champion.
Jhunjhunwala had a big mountain to climb as he entered the final table trailing significantly. He was in eighth place in terms of chip stack out of the nine final players. However, he got involved in a couple of big pots where he knocked out Amit Jain and Akshay Nasa, and that got the ball rolling for him. Deepak Singh actually entered the final day as the leader but he trickled down the standings the entire day and finished fourth.
Sahil Mahboobani was the runner-up and won just over $64,600. Rounding out the top five were Vidur Singhal, who was third and won just over $41,600, Singh, who was fourth and won $30,600, and Hidangmayum Somesh, who was fifth and collected $23,380.
Holderness Wins 2018 Unibet Dublin Main Event
The Bonnington Hotel in Dublin, Ireland, was the site of the 2018 Unibet Open Dublin Main Event. When the smoke had cleared, it was 34-year-old Paul Jux Holderness who took home the crown. He emerged from a field of 359 entrants in an event that split a 359,000-euro prize pool. Holderness walked away with 74,900 euros as a result of his triumph.
There was a guaranteed prize pool for this event at 250,000 euros but with more entries than expected, the prize pool ballooned to 359,000 euros. As a result, the top 47 players earned a payday with the top eight collecting at least 9,000 euros.
Julien Kron was the runner-up and won just over 46,500 euros while Keith Brennan was third and earned 32,100 euros.
Pham Beats Massive Field For Another Victory
It’s been a successful couple of weeks for Trung Pham, to say the least. He won the World Series of Poker Choctaw event two weeks ago and notched the second gold ring of his career. Now he has added another big victory to his ledger sheet, running a hot streak by capturing the 2018 Seminole Rock ’N’ Roll Poker Open.
The event had a modest $360 buy-in but attracted a massive player pool, which is what allowed them to guarantee an enormous $1-million prize pool. The size of the field was a daunting 4,558 players and as a result actually pushed the prize pool much higher than was expected to $1,376,400. When Pham secured his victory, it amounted to a $123,364 first-place prize.
Devond Marshall was the runner-up and won just over $109,000. Kharlin Sued was third and earned just over $106,600.
