A number of big poker tournaments came to a conclusion this past week. A number of big paydays were doled out, so let’s recap the big winners starting in Florida with the Rock N’ Roll Poker Open.
Zayas Wins Rock N’ Roll Poker Open
It was a good week for Francois Zayas, who claimed a six-figure prize at the Rock N’ Roll Poker Open. He outlasted a massive field of players, surviving the 3,570 entrants at the Seminole Hard Rock. The $360 Ultimate Re-entry had a $360 buy-in and seven players ended up winning over $50,000, led by Zayas, who took home $107,973. Meanwhile, Daniel Taylor was in second place with $85,481, Song O was third with $85,146, Benjamin Miner was fourth with $75,070 and Brandon Ageloff rounded out the top five at $70,133.
It was definitely the biggest payday of Zayas’ career as his previous largest win came in August 2013, when he won $14,500 for second place in a no-limit event in Miami. This could spark a run through December for Zayas, who has been in the money in a few other tournaments at the Seminole Hard Rock, but nothing like this before.
Segebrecht Claims Master Classics
An excellent month of November continued for Claas Segebrecht, who won the Master Classics of Poker 2017 Main Event. That came on the heels of his third-place finish at a High Roller event in the World Series of Poker Europe where he took home $374,682. Segebrecht won $276,804 for first place in the Master Classics of Poker event where the buy-in was $4,766 and a $357 re-entry. He came in ahead of Bart Lybaert, who won $185,511, then Kai Lehto was in third place with $128,767. Igor Yaroshevskyy was fourth with $92,755 and John Juanda finished in fifth place with $69,234.
Segebrecht is no stranger to big paydays as his best live-cash performance resulted in a cool $468,594 for fourth place in a World Series of Poker event in June 2014. He has five wins where he has collected over $100,000. This particular Master Classics of Poker event was held in Amsterdam and the top 11 players went home with at least $23,520.
Greenwood Wins in Caribbean
Sam Greenwood came out on top in the $5,300 MILLIONS Main Event at the 2017 Caribbean Poker Party Festival this past week, taking home a million-dollar payday. It was the second time that Greenwood has won at least a million dollars. The first was at a Super High Roller event in Barcelona in August 2016. Greenwood has been on fire, finishing fifth or better in his last four starts and taking home at least $124,100. He’s now won six figures or more in six tournaments this year.
Andrey Shatilov won second place with $650,000, while Jonas Gjelstad was third with $450,000, then Jiri Horak and Felipe Ramos rounded out the top five with $315,850 and $220,000, respectively.
This event took place in Punta Cana and it had a buy-in of $5,000 with a re-entry fee of $300. Greenwood ended up with almost $1.4 million in the span of three days. Even if he doesn’t play another tournament in 2017, it’ll have been the best year on record for him.
